You are so right about Ta-Ke! With the options available, why go there?

BTW- Mr. Sushi is now gone... replaced by another sushi restaurant, I believe. (Coach Sushi?)

A very pleasant surprise has been Samauri Sushi on Grand, beyond the Grand Lake Theater. A boat restaurant that surpasses one's assumptions about "sushi boat" restaurants-- by about a mile. Great quality fish, very pleasant staff & rather decent service. Really... even if it were so-so service, I'd still be back- as the fish is that good. They have rather high standards for what they sell- as it should be. I have averaged 2-3 visits a month for the past 6 months that they have been open. Consistant & yummy.

Taking what in the East Bay as the benchmark for quality (Food A or Service A, Oakland or not)? Kirala for "Food A"? I can';t think of any sushi places that stand out for "service".

My favorite sushi place these days is Uzen on College, which I'd give: Food B+, Service B (they seem to have a lot of trainees lately, previously they may have earned a B+ here, too).

I've been hearing great stuff about Drunken Fish, at the foot of Piedmont, cross street Broadway. Still haven't gone yet though.

Awhile ago, Mr. Sushi was great, too bad the quality went down.
Wow, how sad, I can't think of a stellar sushi spot in Oakland right now.

I've been to Drunken Fish a lot. They are great and consistent. It can get pretty busy on weekend nights, so go mid week. They're closed on Mondays. The owners also just opened up a new japanese restaurant in Emmeryville called Miyozen.

This is their web site if you want to look at photos, menu and more information on Drunken Fish Sushi and Miyozen Japanese food.

A+ as far as I'm concerned. The best sushi in Oakland is definitely Drunken Fish.
