Kirala and Uzen. The former is, I think, as good as any place anywhere, but kind of a zoo: get there early - no reservations and the place opens at 5:30 but the line can be long enough to fill it by 5:00! Uzen is a popular neighborhood place in Rockridge.

Sushi House is Alameda is tasty, with pretty decent portions at reasonable prices.
The downside is the long waits during peak times.
Take out is the best way to go with them.

    They have a cool website:

For quality Sushi is Alameda, Angelfish on Bay Farm Island is by far the best.

I don't have a favorite right now. Searching for a new favorite place. So far I've tried Jo's Sushi in Pleasant Hill.....good and will try again. Kane Sushi in Danville......had a great time but then I knew the owner and got my dinner free. Nama Sushi in Walnut Creek....good usually. Very slow service one time. Sushi to Die For in San Rafael, not in the East Bay was my last really good sushi. Going to try Kane Sushi in Lafayette, her second restaurant, hasn't been open long. Suwa's in Concord can be good but sometimes the service has been slow/poor.

Well, I hadda join, just to speak up on the topic. LOVE sushi here. My wife and I can usually be found at Genki Sushi on San Pablo Ave in Berkeley. Closer in, but perhaps not quite as good is either the Drunken Fish, or Koyro... both owned by the same people.

Angel Fish in Alameda is pretty good too.

Went back to Jo's Sushi www.jossushibar.com Last night. Really good food. The Ankimo was lovely and the sake menu was good. Had 2 premium sakes in boxes. Both new to me. Had a great time and my friend and I will be going back.

My latest place I've tried was Happy Roll in Concord. Owner is very nice and is also the chef. Nice decor, not crowded yet and good service. They will be moving to the location of what used to be Star Midas across the park on Willow Pass. The rolls were large and very nicely presented and taste very good. Decent sushi portions and wine poured to the rim of the glass.

I (heart) Teriyaki and Sushi next to the Brendan Theater was surprisingly ok as well. Owner is nice and rolls were decent. I did not try much sushi at either place, mainly rolls due to my friend being with me.

I love Jo's Sushi Bar in Pleasant Hill (corner of Morello Ave & Taylor Blvd). It's consistently excellent, I've eaten there at least 25 times and never had a bad meal. As much as I'd like to try other sushi places nearby, my fiancee and I always come back to Jo's because, well, why risk a subpar sushi experience when you don't have to?

Jo's tataki (white tuna) literally makes my eyes roll back in my head. It's that good.

I haven't been to Sushi House since they moved to their new location in the free-standing building (former Mexican place, former Lyon's).

I've heard it's as crowded as ever. Has anyone been lately??
